Hormonal Hangover- Skin After BC

Are you curious about going off of birth control? Have you gone off of your birth control and are now battling mood swings, skin changes, weight changes, and other abnormalities? Do not stress any further. Today I am writing to tell you all the things I wish someone had told when I decided to embark on the hellish journey of going off the pill.

Two years ago, I had near perfect skin, a healthy metabolism and a virtually nonexistent period. All great things until coupled with hair loss, anxiety, wild emotions, increasingly dry skin, and a pathetic libido. That's when I decided to listen to my body and get off birth control. It was a very difficult decision to make as I did not (and still don't) wish to have children. Outside of hormones, the options available seemed very limited and let's be honest, no one wants to use condoms in a committed relationship. But alas, there I was, ditching my pretty pink pills for ribbed pleasures. And I thought, "This is it, I've replaced my birth control, on with my life."

I was sadly mistaken. In less than a month, I had crippling cramps causing me to call out of work and I developed adult hormonal acne. Despite these negative impacts, I did not go back to my pills. My anxiety had greatly improved, my hair loss had stopped, and I no longer cried at the drop of a hat. I decided to keep going. Fast forward 3 months; I began gaining weight and my breasts grew (I was already thicker than a snicker and in no need of more chest), and I magically started to smell like a teenage boy after gym class. No need for condoms, I was sex repellant.

My hormones were all over the place and it took me 2 years to finally reign them in. While I'm still in the process of removing the weight I gained, I did find a cure for the adult acne which a was my biggest problem. I also discovered ways to alleviate my SEVERE (throwing up, crying in the fetus position) cramps.

SN- If you are suffering from serious cramps, make sure to see your OBGYN to rule out endometriosis.

To alleviate cramps, you have to know your cycle. I began tracking my period on the CLUE app. Three days before my period, I take two Aleve (Naproxen Sodium) once a day. This blocks a specific hormone that can cause severe cramping. The medicine needs to be in your system a minimum of 24 hours before your period starts.

I also started utilizing sound therapy, which has allowed me to discontinue the Aleve treatment before my period. I attend gong healings that are truly magical. I haven't been sick or had to call into work due to my cramps since beginning the treatment. Sound therapy is based in science but I do realize that it is not for everyone. If you are interested, I highly encourage you to experience it at least once.

Adult acne was harder to find the cure for. I wasted so much time and money with dermatologists, estheticians, and different skincare regimens. In the last 2 years, I spent over $5000 on facials, treatments, consultations, prescriptions, and skincare that didn't work. I spent more on my face than I did on my car. I hope that my insights can save you the financial strain and emotional distress I dealt with.

To treat adult acne, you have to be willing to spend some time and money on your skin; roughly 5 minutes in the morning and at night. I have helped so many women change their skin and control their acne. If you are interested in finding a customized regimen, please message me and we can find the perfect skincare to meet your needs.

Acne is topical and internal. You will need to invest in two internal supplements to support your skincare regimen. I highly recommend the Smoky Mountain Naturals DIM Supplement. It is a cruciferous vegetable extract that helps balance estrogen. It works wonders for internally supporting a new skincare regimen. I purchase mine on Amazon for $20 every 2 months. Along with my DIM supplement, I take a 50 Billion CFU Probiotic. If you have been on clindamycin or any other topical/internal antibiotics, this is extremely important. Those antibiotics have depleted your natural defenses against bacteria and other pathogens, leaving your skin and body exposed.

Diet is important to consider when battling hormones, which I will discuss in another post. If you have questions, feel free to email me. I'd love to know how this blog helped you and what else you'd enjoy reading about. Good luck with your hormonal hangover.
